Silver Air relaunches Flight Club with dynamic pricing and $100,000 minimum deposit
The California operator is shifting from fixed pricing to dynamic pricing and targeting 80 per cent membership penetration, up from the current 55 per cent.
Silver Air Private Jets has relaunched its Flight Club membership programme with dynamic pricing, replacing the fixed and dynamic pricing options that were in place when the programme launched in 2020.
The relaunch does not change what cardholders pay per flight hour — dynamic pricing means rates vary by aircraft type and demand, as with most charter programmes — but it removes the membership fee structure entirely. Members pay only for the flights they take, drawn from a prepaid account with a $100,000 minimum deposit. Unused balances are fully refundable.
Private Jet Card Comparisons reported on September 14 that Flight Club membership now includes several benefits beyond flight access. Members can specify aircraft types, vintage and amenities. Catering, de-icing and other ancillary fees are included in the quoted price. The programme offers a mechanical recovery guarantee, which covers the cost of a replacement aircraft at no extra charge if the first one develops a mechanical fault during the charter. Members receive one free empty leg flight annually and 50 per cent off weekly empty leg releases. Referring a new member earns a complimentary one-way empty leg flight.
The charity element is new: Silver Air will donate 1 per cent of all money spent on flights to charity. The operator intends to support about five charities, with the final list set by the end of October.
Why the shift to dynamic pricing
Jessica Rust, president of Silver Air's Flight Club, told Private Jet Card Comparisons that the move away from fixed pricing reflects the operator's service philosophy. Under fixed pricing, she explained, "You sell (jet cards) at X rate. And now you have to go find the cheapest option. And you're motivated as a broker to go find that cheapest option. It loses that white glove service, and I want to get you the best plane for this option instead of the cheapest plane for this option."
The Flight Club uses both Silver Air's own fleet and third-party charter operators to fulfil requests.
Membership growth target
About 55 per cent of Silver Air's clients are Flight Club members, compared to those who charter on an ad-hoc basis. Rust said the operator wants to raise that figure to 80 per cent, with the goal of building a larger, more stable membership base and strengthening customer loyalty.
Concours appearance
Silver Air will attend the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas from October 29 through 31 to attract new clients for both its charter programmes and aircraft management services. The operator will operate a VIP hospitality area at the event.
As with most dynamic pricing programmes, the reporting notes that terms are restrictive for one-way flights if clients cancel or make changes after booking.
