SyberJet receives over 50 letters of intent for SJ36 light jet

The aircraft, unveiled ahead of NBAA-BACE, is designed to be the fastest and farthest-flying light jet ever built, with deliveries expected to begin in 2032.

SyberJet has received letters of intent for more than 50 SJ36 aircraft following the model's unveiling last week in Henderson, Nevada, Flying Magazine reported on Monday.

The LOIs are nonbinding expressions of interest that can eventually result in firm purchase agreements. According to Flying Magazine, the letters came from across the business aviation sector, including charter operators, corporate flight departments and private owners. Several parties sought to reserve multiple aircraft.

The SJ36 has seating for eight passengers and is designed to be the fastest and farthest-flying light jet ever built. SyberJet projects a maximum speed of Mach 0.88, a range of up to 3,000 nautical miles and a service ceiling of 49,000 feet.

A mock-up of the aircraft was displayed to the public ahead of the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE). Deliveries of the SJ36 are expected to begin in 2032.

Price and terms

Flying Magazine reports that the letters of intent came from charter operators, corporate flight departments and private owners, with several parties seeking to reserve multiple aircraft. However, the reporting does not disclose a price for the SJ36, nor does it say what terms apply to the letters of intent or how many are expected to convert to firm orders.

Timeline and production questions

The six-year timeline before first deliveries in 2032 means demand and market conditions could shift substantially before aircraft begin reaching operators. It is unclear from available reporting whether SyberJet has disclosed production capacity or the rate at which deliveries are expected to occur. Neither does the reporting say whether any of the letters of intent have come from operators currently flying competing light-jet models, or whether they represent net new demand in the category.

For existing charter operators and corporate flight departments, the SJ36's specifications could expand their options in the light-jet category if delivered on schedule. However, without a disclosed price or clarity on LOI conversion rates, it remains uncertain what competitive impact the aircraft will have on the current market.
